Alan Caron: Let's boost economy by first imagining a better future | The Portland Press Herald / Maine Sunday Telegram

I've re-started my weekly column in the Portland papers, running every Thursday. While enjoying a welcome break from politics, I'll be focusing on how we can revive our anemic economy. This week, the first step:Imagination. Next week: moving beyond gloom and doom. I'll be highlighting success stories and positive action steps we can take. Send me your stories and ideas and I'll try to share them.

Alan Caron: Moving into the future requires building on work of the past | The Portland Press Herald / Maine Sunday Telegram

My column today in the Portland papers on the same-sex marriage issue. It is about a wonderful young couple we know who were recently married. Under current Maine law, they're simply strangers.

Alan Caron: Summers' campaign strategy is hide the candidate | The Portland Press Herald / Maine Sunday Telegram

A few people said I was too tough on Cynthia Dill in my column last week in the Portland Press Herald. Actually, I like Cynthia and appreciate what she's trying to do. But the numbers speak for themselves, and despite plenty of push-back about process and indignation, nobody disputed those numbers. Dill can't win and a vote for her, in the end, will only help Republican Charlie Summers, who is the focus of this week's column.
